Today, Jane Herries, from Kiwi Orienteering, took Sheppard House for a session on orienteering around HNHS.
She was helped out by some High School students and it was great to see some fast times and students wanting to have second goes!!

And our Winners are.....
So we had our "bridge"off today. Mavi, Dylan and Sam's bridge took an extra 100g in weight and Chloe and Cameron's bridge supported an extra 200 g.
However "way" ahead was the bridge made by Yana, Daisy and Jade. We added an extra 800g and it was still solid - so well done girls!

Movers and Shakers Challenge
One of the tasks I left for Room 11 to do whilst I was away was a "Four in a Row" Thinkers Keys activity.
Today, as a class, we found time to do the CONSTRUCTION KEY task. We had to create a bridge from Tape, Straws and cardboard.
Then we had the test - would they take the weight of one and then two books ....
We are down now to three finalists! Mavi/ Sam W/ Dylan vs Cameron and Chloe vs Yana / Daisy / Jade.
Let's see what happens tomorrow!!!

Friday Afternoon Assembly
This afternoon Sheppard House Leaders were "leading" our Friday afternoon school Assembly. They had put in a lot of effort to showcase Sheppard House "highlights" to the rest of the school but unfortunately time ran away ....
HBHS brought three different cultural groups over to perform for the school. Their Kapa Haka, Barber Shop quartet and Pasifika groups put on wonderful performances and had the whole school entertained.

Tracking Pests for Homework
I thought that I would also give this task a go ... and No Pests in my garden!! The tracking device wasn't all that successful so I have made a few modifications! Hopefully I will find something out there!
I am looking forward to seeing if the students have more luck than me and what improvements and innovations they can come up with!

A Busy Monday
Room 11 were straight back into work mode today. They looked great in their winter uniforms - and coped with a warm day!
Mrs Goodwin's maths class had a "long" discussion about fractions - what they "look" like, all the vocabulary around fractions that they know or remember and where fractions are seen and used in everyday life. Then they were asked to rate themselves and their confidence using fractions and solving problems involving fractions!

A highlight for me came at the end of the day with the Food Tech group arriving with a "sample" of their hard work! Yummmm
So here's to a successful and fun term !!

Today Room 9 passed on some of their Volleyball skills! We didn't have a lot of space to work with though, as Miss Hawtin had a Science class out busy firing awesome rockets and the NZ Army had a big display out on the fields!!
