Week 2 in Room 10

This week has flown by! It was great to meet so many parents and caregivers on Wednesday evening.
Here are some photos from Nepia's morning session at the Village pools that same morning.

The Start of a new year !!

Welcome to 2016 and ROOM 10!
Room 10 has 29 awesome students and two teachers!
Mrs Burch and Mrs Goodwin
This week we have spent time getting to know each other and creating minions of ourselves (amongst other things!) We have also come up with our expectations on how we should get along at school and show respect for HNI and its values.

Room 10 Class Guidelines

Respect the property, environment and community of HNI at all time.

Be positive and supporting in your language and actions.

Aspire and Excel to be the best version of yourself.

Together we achieve more.

Published Poems

Yesterday we revisited parts of speech - but did so through poetry. It also was a chance to make sure that we are still  thinking carefully about word choice and creating descriptive sentences.
It was a great reaction this morning to see so many Room 11 students head over to the wall to read their own poems and those of their class mates!

More on Measuring

Today we learnt some new words associated with measurement!  From "mouthful" to "jiffy", "googal" and "Warhol" - we came across a huge range of words we didn't know where actually units of measure.
Then we looked at how we could use ourselves as a unit  measurement:

Maths - Learning to measure.

With our unit on Measurement the class have had an opportunity to "measure" in a variety of ways and use a range of measuring equipment!
We had a "Mini-Olympics" that involved a 10m straw sprint, a paper plane pole vault, balloon shotput, counter long and high jump and the last event was a skewer javelin throw!

For the record Mavi, Dylan and Bryn took out first place!!

In Search Of Beauty!

This week Room 11 has been discussing and researching our thoughts on the meaning of "Beauty". We definitely have some strong opinions on what is NOT beautiful.
We have looked into some fashion trends that really don't look that great to us, as well as finding out how differing cultures have a quite differing views on beauty. The videos we watched on foot binding in China and African scarification rituals made a big impact!
At the moment we are trying to come up with our own idea - the Perfect man or woman!
