PE with Room 9 and 12B - Volleyball

Today Room 9 passed on some of their Volleyball skills! We didn't have a lot of space  to work with though, as Miss Hawtin had a Science class out busy firing awesome rockets and the NZ Army had a big display out on the fields!!
PS It was really hot too!

Some Maths!

Today some of my Maths class thought about the strategies they use to solve problems mentally. In small groups they shared their ideas and then looked at a "levelled" sheet to see where they would place themselves!

Sheppard Assembly

Today was Room 11's turn to "host" Assembly and the task fell to Class Councillors - Ruby and Jack. They put a lot of thought and time into what would work well for the four classes. Having decided on a "Quiz Show" format, they invited each class to find two representatives to test their knowledge on New Zealand. Room 11 had Tom and Libby, who in turn chose an interesting buzzer sound - "DING DONG"!! An earlier Tom noise was a bit inaudible!!
The Assembly also gave our class an opportunity to share one of our Kiwi Roadshow presentations. By an overwhelming class majority Lola, Chloe and Finn's trip was shared with the House.

The "Bugman's" visit

Today we had an early "whole school"  Assembly. Our visitors were Caroline Wallace and Ruud Kleinpaste. They were with us because of the Treemendous Project we won last year.

Rudd talked to us about how vital insects are to the whole world. They are pollinators extraordinaire and we could not survive without them. He introduced us to spiders, sloths, butterflies and a whole range of creatures who rely on bugs. We heard that there are 1 million known insect species and up to 12 -30 million yet to be identified!

Here are a few snaps!
